Freeflight isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Ahmad Jamal’s album Freeflight falls to No. 2 with 848,000, a sales slide of 86%. Lead single “Introduction” and “Effendi” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Ahmad Jamal “Freeflight” is an amazing album.
I’ve found myself listening to Effendi back to back and back many times. Dolphin Dance - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. Listening to Manhattan Reflections you can hear that Ahmad Jamal has still amazing chemistry with band members. Poinciana is nothing short of a modern masterpiece.
