Since Al Di Meola last CD (Splendido Hotel) on Sparrow Records back in 1979, I have felt a massive void in my life. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Al Di Meola energies, virtually a rebirth. This is the first studio album from Al Di Meola since bad diagnosis in 1979. If you want to hear real Jazz: Fusion, get this record now!
Silent Story In Her Eyes was the first single release from the album Splendido Hotel. Roller Jubilee - arguably the best track on Splendido Hotel album. As always, Al Di Meola’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. Dinner Music Of The Gods is simple, dignified and effective, Al Di Meola refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Splendido Sundance is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. I like the agression and power of I Can Tell. Spanish Eyes as a highlight of Splendido Hotel contains a ton of perfect melodies. Still going through Splendido Hotel and coming to appreciate Isfahan more and more with every listen. The song feels complete.
