Since completing 1960’s ‘Caravan’, Art Blakey fulfilled their contract with SixSteps records and where under no obligation to release another album. I am not a real Jazz music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Big Beat’ really is amazing. Big Beat carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. To me Art Blakey is the best band ever.
High Priest hits the heart. Theme has a fun tempo. Conversation is one of these floating songs. Jody’s Cha Cha is a astounding sing-along. Larry Larue is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. The sound of Lady Luck is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Buzz At - A catchy, upbeat tune. Strong, powerful vocals of Art Blakey in Pretty Brown are very impressive. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Art Blakey. I came to like Carioca (”El Tambores”). This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. Gone Gone Gone is simply exquisite. Tribal Message is a very catchy tune.
