Thom Yorke has compared writing for Art Pepper Quartet’s new album to that on ‘Modern Art’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. eight years ago, Art Pepper Quartet briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Bewitched, bothered and bewildered”. This fourteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Art Pepper Quartet has. Lots of variety between tracks. My favorite is Bewitched, bothered and bewildered
One listen to the sheer beauty of Bewitched, bothered and bewildered was all I needed. Art Pepper Quartet is one of artists that allow his songs like Stompin’ at the Savoy to stand on their own and be heard. What is this thing called love? - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Once you hear Blues out, you will listen to it over and over. When you’re smiling - This one makes me want to not only sing along. This track is almost perfect, instrumentals and vocals combine awesomely. Still going through Modern Art and coming to appreciate Diane’s dilemma more and more with every listen. I have all of Art Pepper Quartet’s tracks and Diane’s dilemma (alternate take) is probably the most his introspective effort. Such hits like Summer time will leave you hooked. Fascinating rhythm is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. In Begin the beguine Art Pepper Quartet is at his best. Webb city is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle.
