After seeing [Coro]: “Die Elenden sollen essen” (Leonhardt-Consort), I had to have a good Bach, Johann Sebastian cd. Since Bach, Johann Sebastian last CD (BWV 75) on SixSteps records back in 1977, I have felt a massive void in my life. Bach, Johann Sebastian’s debut, ‘BWV 75′, does not fit easily into one genre. Exciting stuff.
Recitativo (Basso): “Was hilft des Purpurs Majestaet” (Leonhardt-Consort) is the first taste of the new album. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Recitativo (Tenore): “Gott stuerzet und erhoehet” (Leonhardt-Consort) is one of the more up-tempo songs on BWV 75. The song feels complete. The song Recitativo (Soprano): “Indes schenkt Gott ein gut Gewissen” (Leonhardt-Consort) ending is my favorite… so catchy! Choral (Coro): “Was Gott tut, das ist wohl getan” (Leonhardt-Consort) is a very catchy tune. Sinfonia (Leonhardt-Consort, con. Gustav Leonhardt.) is one of my favorite songs by Bach, Johann Sebastian. Recitativo (Alto): “Nur eines kraenkt ein christliches Gem” (Leonhardt-Consort) - arguably the best track on BWV 75 album. Aria (Alto): “Jesus macht mich geistlich reich” (Leonhardt-Consort) is the more seemingly obscure song on BWV 75 that bear up best to repeated listening. Recitativo (Basso): “Wer nur in Jesu bleibt” (Leonhardt-Consort) is exquisite song though, very addictive. The opening track Aria (Basso): “Mein Herze glaeubt und liebt” (Leonhardt-Consort) is very much like you would expect from other albums. Recitativo (Tenore): “O Armut, der kein Reichtum gleicht!” (Leonhardt-Consort) on BWV 75 is solid and easy to listen to. Choral (Coro): “Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan” (Leonhardt-Consort) makes a person feel excellent.
