Since Ben Webster last CD (The Warm Moods) on ForeFront Records back in 1960, I have felt a massive void in my life. While no new Ben Webster album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1960 tour in Australia. John Digester has compared writing for Ben Webster’s new album to that on ‘The Warm Moods’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. This is my first Ben Webster Album and i must say i am blown away.
Stella By Starlight gives taste of what makes Ben Webster special as a musician. Ben Webster rocks harder than ever with With Every Breath I Take. Music and lyrics of Accent On Youth creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. It’s a great pleasure to listen to But Beautiful from the beginning to the end. No Ben Webster song has come close to capturing my attention as Time After Time did. Nancy (With The Laughing Face) is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through The Warm Moods. Voice of Ben Webster in I’m Beginning To See The Light is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. The sound of It Was So Beautiful is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. The Whiffenpoof Song - Check out that bassline! It’s Easy To Remember is a medium tempo tune. There’s No You sets the tone for the entire album.
