It’s natural for Blues - Various Artists to take a stab at ‘Good Moanin’ Blues (Walter Horton)’ considering her long-professed love for EMF. This disc has all of the essential Blues - Various Artists classics. It has been six years Blues - Various Artists’ last studio CD, “Detroit Jr. - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4″ which won Array Academy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. It is very deep stuff - very exciting
In Wrinkles (The Big Three Trio) the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Nine Below Zero (Sonny Boy Williamson) rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. I find myself hearing bits of Bring It On Home (Sonny Boy Williamson) here and there throughout my waking hours. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Album opener Blue Shadows (Lowell Fulson) is a bright, upbeat ditty. Charming song, great melody. We’re Gonna Make It (Little Milton) is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. Satisfied (Little Milton) is probably one of Blues - Various Artists’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Song Dirty Work Goin’ On (Little Joe Blue) is actually a funny song. |titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity. Wang Dang Doodle (Koko Taylor) still maintains something of a specific flourish. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer (John Lee Hooker) sets the tone for the entire album. Such hits like The Red Rooster (Howlin’ Wolf) will leave you hooked. Killing Floor (Howlin’ Wolf) is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Blues - Various Artists ever produced. Goin’ Down Slow (Howlin’ Wolf) is a gorgeous sing-along. Sitting Here Alone (Hound Dog Taylor) - This one is lively and fun. The first time I listened to Something’s Got A Hold On Me (Etta James) I was struck by its exquisite sound. I’d Rather Go Blind (Etta James) is the first taste of the new album. The Sun Is Shining (alternate; Elmore James) gives good insight into the truths. Jinglin’ Baby (Eddie Burns) is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. It’s such an underrated song. First Time I Met The Blues (Buddy Guy) is one of my favorite songs by Blues - Various Artists. Calling On My Darling (Albert King) is marvelous work of Blues - Various Artists.
