After seeing Calling On My Darling (Albert King), I had to have a good Blues - Various Artists cd. Since Blues - Various Artists last CD (Etta James - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4) on EMI Records back in 1960, I have felt a massive void in my life. There is no doubt that Blues - Various Artists has talent. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Blues - Various Artists is one of artists that allow his songs like First Time I Met The Blues (Buddy Guy) to stand on their own and be heard. A unique and uplifting song. Too Poor (Detroit Jr.) is amazing and different song. Jinglin’ Baby (Eddie Burns) is a very catchy tune. Excellent vocals and musical performances. The sound of I’d Rather Go Blind (Etta James) is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Once Something’s Got A Hold On Me (Etta James) gets in your head, it will NEVER leave. Blues - Various Artists emotions are reflected through Sitting Here Alone (Hound Dog Taylor). Such hits like Goin’ Down Slow (Howlin’ Wolf) will leave you hooked. Killing Floor (Howlin’ Wolf) is simply excellent. One listen to the sheer beauty of The Red Rooster (Howlin’ Wolf) was all I needed. I think One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer (John Lee Hooker) is the best song Blues - Various Artists has ever done. I was truly moved when I heard Wang Dang Doodle (Koko Taylor). What Kind Of Man Is That- (Koko Taylor) - A strong beat. Dirty Work Goin’ On (Little Joe Blue) is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Etta James - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4. This track is a killer, it just grabs you instantly. This track is full of harmonies and gets Etta James - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4 off to a relaxing start. I hope to keep hearing Blues - Various Artists works for a long time to come. I find myself hearing bits of Blue Shadows (Lowell Fulson) here and there throughout my waking hours. Blues - Various Artists has astounded me with this amazing track. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Nine Below Zero (Sonny Boy Williamson) is absolutely incredible. You can find feelings on this piece of art. I like to sing along with Good Moanin’ Blues (Walter Horton), though I mess up the lyrics sometimes.
