It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Blues - Various Artists energies, virtually a rebirth. It has been ten years Blues - Various Artists’ last studio CD, “Little Joe Blue - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4″ which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. When you buy a Blues - Various Artists album, you know exactly what you’re getting! This is my first Blues - Various Artists Album and i must say i am blown away.
First Time I Met The Blues (Buddy Guy) is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. Blew our minds when we first heard Keep It To Myself (Buddy Guy). Too Poor (Detroit Jr.) hits the heart. Jinglin’ Baby (Eddie Burns) actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Blues - Various Artists’s face. This song is dynamic and dramatic. I have all of Blues - Various Artists’s tracks and I’d Rather Go Blind (Etta James) is probably the most his introspective effort. One listen to the sheer beauty of Something’s Got A Hold On Me (Etta James) was all I needed. Sitting Here Alone (Hound Dog Taylor) is a bit different from Blues - Various Artists stereotypical stuff. Goin’ Down Slow (Howlin’ Wolf) one is one of the better boring ones. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. The Red Rooster (Howlin’ Wolf) is a fine track on any terms. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer (John Lee Hooker) is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. A unique and uplifting song. This song may be the most meaningful. Dirty Work Goin’ On (Little Joe Blue) is filled with very deep emotions that will truly touch your heart. Satisfied (Little Milton) - This is a very lively song. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: We’re Gonna Make It (Little Milton), which shows, blatantly, how much Blues - Various Artists has evolved as a singer. The Shakedown (Lloyd Glenn) is a marvelous, simple song by Blues - Various Artists at the top of his game. Blue Shadows (Lowell Fulson) is a very catchy tune. There is gorgeous mix of music in That’s Why I Don’t Mind (Muddy Waters). Bring It On Home (Sonny Boy Williamson) is the more seemingly obscure song on Little Joe Blue - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4 that bear up best to repeated listening. Blues - Various Artists sings his heart out in Nine Below Zero (Sonny Boy Williamson). This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Little Joe Blue - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4. Good Moanin’ Blues (Walter Horton) is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit.
