John Digester has compared writing for Blues - Various Artists’s new album to that on ‘Lloyd Glenn - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4′ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Blues - Various Artists’s debut, ‘Lloyd Glenn - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4′, does not fit easily into one genre. This disc has all of the essential Blues - Various Artists classics. If I may, I suggest “Calling On My Darling (Albert King)”. That one song is amazing!
First time I heard First Time I Met The Blues (Buddy Guy) was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing. In Keep It To Myself (Buddy Guy) Blues - Various Artists spins a tale you want to hear to the end. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Too Poor (Detroit Jr.). I listened to the opening track Jinglin’ Baby (Eddie Burns) and liked it a lot. This track is full of harmonies and gets Lloyd Glenn - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4 off to a relaxing start. If you are a Blues - Various Artists fan, you will love I’d Rather Go Blind (Etta James). Something’s Got A Hold On Me (Etta James) hits the heart. Music of Sitting Here Alone (Hound Dog Taylor) is gentle, never overbearing. So much energy, so exciting a sound.Killing Floor (Howlin’ Wolf) is one of the best records ever. Such hits like The Red Rooster (Howlin’ Wolf) will leave you hooked. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer (John Lee Hooker) is a good listen every once in a while. Blues - Various Artists is hitting on all cylinders in Wang Dang Doodle (Koko Taylor). No Blues - Various Artists song has come close to capturing my attention as What Kind Of Man Is That- (Koko Taylor) did. Dirty Work Goin’ On (Little Joe Blue) is almost impossible to review. Satisfied (Little Milton) - A catchy, upbeat tune. You can find feelings on this piece of art. The Shakedown (Lloyd Glenn) has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. In Blue Shadows (Lowell Fulson) you won’t find any flashy solos. That’s Why I Don’t Mind (Muddy Waters) is really the reason why I recommend buying Lloyd Glenn - Chess Blues (1960-1967) - CD4. Song Bring It On Home (Sonny Boy Williamson) is actually a funny song. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. The song feels complete. Good Moanin’ Blues (Walter Horton) one of the best in my collection.
