It’s natural for Blues - Various Artists to take a stab at ‘Highway 61 (Fred Mcdowell)’ considering her long-professed love for Armin Van Buuren. I am not a real Blues music type of person, but i have to admit ‘The American Folk and Blues Festival Live ‘65′ really is amazing. This album has some very good songs like Highway 61 (Fred Mcdowell) and Slow Down (J.B.Lenoir). Great Blues right here!
I have all of Blues - Various Artists’s tracks and Slow Down (J.B.Lenoir) is probably the most his introspective effort. Christine (Big Walter Horton) is a astounding song and it grows on you. Excellent vocals and musical performances. Five Long Years (Eddie Boyd) great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool. The Big Question (Eddie Boyd) - My least favorite song on this album. This track is nearly perfect if not perfect. King Of The World (John Lee Hooker) - To me, this is the best song on the The American Folk and Blues Festival Live ‘65. Della Mae (John Lee Hooker) has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Blues - Various Artists’s strong vocals come to the fore. I like to sing along with First Time I Met The Blues (Buddy Guy), though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Hound Dog (Big Mama Thornton) is one of the best records ever. My Black Name Is Ringing (Doctor Ross) as a highlight of The American Folk and Blues Festival Live ‘65 contains a ton of perfect melodies.
