This is one of the best Cd’s Cal Tjader has dropped to date. Cal Tjader Plays, Mary Stallings Sings carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Cal Tjader energies, virtually a rebirth. I wish that “Cal Tjader Plays, Mary Stallings Sings” album was instrumental.
It Ain’t Necessarily So is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. God Bless the Child is one of the most beautiful songs ever to grace my stereo. Music in Just Squeeze Me (But Don’t Tease Me) is astounding as in all tracks of Cal Tjader Plays, Mary Stallings Sings. I Didn’t Know About You is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. This song may be the most meaningful. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. Why Don’t You Do Right is almost impossible to review. The sound of Honeysuckle Rose is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. I’m Just a Lucky So and So was the first single release from the album Cal Tjader Plays, Mary Stallings Sings. In Ain’t Misbehavin’ full palet of sound is used by Cal Tjader to accentuate the presentation. A fantastic track full of wonder. Just In Time is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. So much energy, so exciting a sound.
