Lead single “Yardbird Suite” and “The Hymn” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Charlie Parker on ‘Yardbird Suite’. Charlie Parker’s debut, ‘Yardbird Suite Vol.1′, does not fit easily into one genre. Smart music for smart people.
The Hymn is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. Shaw ‘Nuff the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. I like the idea behind Relaxin’ At Camarillo. Nice and different song. Now’s The Time is just simply stunning. Charming song, great melody. Ko Ko is one of the best records ever. Charlie Parker offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. Once you hear Groovin’ High, you will listen to it over and over. Charlie Parker breathes new life into the music in Embaraceable You. Donna Lee I just LOVE this mix! This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. Music in Dewey Square is excellent as in all tracks of Yardbird Suite Vol.1. Charlie Parker sings his heart out in Cool Blues. After you’ve listened to Chasin’ The Bird, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. Bird At Paradise on Yardbird Suite Vol.1 is solid and easy to listen to. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot.
