This album has some very good songs like My Funny Valentine and Strike Up The Band. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Chet Baker, Stan Getz on ‘My Funny Valentine’. After seeing My Funny Valentine, I had to have a good Chet Baker, Stan Getz cd. This is the best album I have heard in a long time
Strong, powerful vocals of Chet Baker, Stan Getz in Strike Up The Band are very impressive. The Way You Look Tonight has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Chet Baker, Stan Getz’s strong vocals come to the fore. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on West Coast Live, vol. 1 is Yardbird Suite. I find myself hearing bits of Yesterdays here and there throughout my waking hours. I came to like Winter Wonderland. Come Out Wherever You Are is probably one of Chet Baker, Stan Getz’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Move is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. Chet Baker, Stan Getz must have run out of lyrics on the next track What’s New. Half Nelson - A catchy, upbeat tune. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in West Coast Live, vol. 1. Music and lyrics of Soft Shoe creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Still going through West Coast Live, vol. 1 and coming to appreciate Whispering more and more with every listen.
