It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Curtis Mayfield energies, virtually a rebirth. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Curtis Mayfield’s album Curtis-Live (Remastered) falls to No. 2 with 333,000, a sales slide of 93%. Curtis Mayfield’s debut, ‘Curtis-Live (Remastered)’, does not fit easily into one genre. I wish that “Curtis-Live (Remastered)” album was instrumental.
Rap is the astounding blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. I Plan To Stay A Believer is a bit of a show-tune. We’re A Winner - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. Rap (2) without a doubt is the standout song of Curtis-Live (Remastered). We’ve Only Just Begun as a highlight of Curtis-Live (Remastered) contains a ton of perfect melodies. People Get Ready gives good insight into the truths. Rap (3) as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Stare and Stare have really caught my ear and imagination. Check Out Your Mind make listening to Curtis Mayfield like being in some sort of time warp. Only one song from Curtis-Live (Remastered) named Gypsy Woman really got me. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. Rap (4) is really a nice song to relax and listen too. Although We The People Who Are Darker Than Blue is very melodic it is far from sad. (Don’t Worry) If There’s A Hell Below We’re All Going To Go is a very catchy tune. Stone Junkie is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Curtis Mayfield released so far. I like to sing along with Superfly, though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. Curtis Mayfield is hitting on all cylinders in Mighty Mighty (Spade and Whitey; Single Version).
