This -song debut EP shows the promise that David Byrne has. I am not a real Ethnic music type of person, but i have to admit ‘The Catherine Wheel’ really is amazing. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of David Byrne energies, virtually a rebirth. Exciting stuff.
Outside of the singles, my favorite song on The Catherine Wheel is His Wife Refused. David Byrne breathes new life into the music in Ade. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of David Byrne. One of the more genuine-sounding songs is Two Soldiers. Under The Mountain is one of these floating songs. Dinosaur is outstanding work of David Byrne. The Red House - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of David Byrne. Wheezing as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. David Byrne must have run out of lyrics on the next track Eggs In A Briar Patch. Poison presents the exquisite mix of instruments on The Catherine Wheel. Charming song, great melody. Black Flag is a strong cut, one of many. Some call My Big Hands (Fall Through The Cracks) from The Catherine Wheel as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. Lyrics of Combat are precise and evocative. If you are a David Byrne fan, you will love Leg Bells. The Blue Flame - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Big Business is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Dense Beasts actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on David Byrne’s face. Five Golden Sections pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. What A Day That Was - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in The Catherine Wheel. Light Bath - another great track from the The Catherine Wheel album.
