‘Reunion Big Band’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Dizzy Gillespie energies, virtually a rebirth. Since Dizzy Gillespie last CD (Reunion Big Band) on Columbia Records back in 1968, I have felt a massive void in my life. This album is awesome.
One Bass Hit catches attention immediately, Frisco is a fine track on any terms. Con Alma makes a person feel gorgeous. The Things Are Here gives good insight into the truths. Lyrics of Birks Works are precise and evocative.
