Jim Jones has compared writing for Don Ellis’s new album to that on ‘Don Ellis at Fillmore’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. four years ago, Don Ellis briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Excursion II”. There is no doubt that Don Ellis has talent. Don Ellis at Fillmore is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
Excursion II is a very catchy tune. Excellent vocals and musical performances. Don Ellis has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Salvatore Sam because the melody in the chorus is so good. Rock Odyssey is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. I think Hey Jude is the best song Don Ellis has ever done. Antea is Don Ellis’s best work in years. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Don Ellis. Great Divide - This one is lively and fun. No Don Ellis song has come close to capturing my attention as Pussy Wiggle Stomp did.
