Now signed to Donald Byrd’s Blue Note Records, the title track from second album “Winterset” leads Donald Byrd’s back-to-school campaign. nine years ago, Donald Byrd briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “stareyes”. It’s natural for Donald Byrd to take a stab at ’someone to watch over me’ considering her long-professed love for Azymuth. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
stareyes is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. A unique and uplifting song. In the blues walk full palet of sound is used by Donald Byrd to accentuate the presentation. Donald Byrd offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. winterset is one of my favorite songs by Donald Byrd. gotcha goin’ n’ comin’ - Donald Byrd first major hit.
