It has been twelve years Donizetti, Gaetano’ last studio CD, “Lucia di Lammermoor” which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Donizetti, Gaetano energies, virtually a rebirth. While no new Donizetti, Gaetano album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1977 tour in Africa. Check it every song is worth the money for the Lucia di Lammermoor CD!
Oh meschina! (Edgardo) - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Fra poco a me ricovero (Edgardo) is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Tombe degli avi miei (Edgardo) (4:14) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. This song stands out greatly from the others. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Ardon gl’incensi (Lucia) is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. Such hits like Il dolce suono (Lucia) will leave you hooked. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Ah! Dalle stanze ove Lucia (Raimondo). D’immenso giubilo (Coro) stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. Still going through Lucia di Lammermoor and coming to appreciate Esci, fuggi (Enrico, Arturo, Normanno…) more and more with every listen. Sconsigilato! In queste porte (Enrico, Arturo, Normanno…) - A nice song. T’allontana, sciagurato (Enrico, Arturo, Normanno…) is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Lucia di Lammermoor. Chi mi frena in tal momento? (Lucia, Edgardo, Enrico…) to me is the best you can get from Donizetti, Gaetano. Piange la madre estinta (Lucia, Edgardo, Enrico…) - This one is lively and fun. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. I’ve found myself listening to Per te d’immenso giubilo (Arturo) back to back and back many times. Voice and instruments in Al ben de’ tuoi qual vittima (Raimondo) complement each other. Donizetti, Gaetano must have run out of lyrics on the next track Ah! Cedi, cedi (Raimondo). I came to like Ebben? - Di tua speranza (Raimondo). Se tradirmi tu potrai (Lucia, Enrico) - A catchy, upbeat tune. Che fia (Lucia, Enrico) still maintains something of a specific flourish. Nice and different song. Appressati, Lucia; Il pallor funesto, orrendo (Lucia, Enrico) makes a person feel cool. Simple and heartfelt closing track Act II. Lucia fra poco a te verra (Normanno) closes Lucia di Lammermoor on a high note. Verranno a te sull’aure (Lucia, Edgardo) is probably one of Donizetti, Gaetano’s biggest successes for the album - it’s lovely to listen to. Sulla tomba che rinserra (Lucia, Edgardo) is filled with very deep emotions that will truly touch your heart. Egli s’avanza (Lucia, Edgardo) - Donizetti, Gaetano first major hit. Quando, rapito in estasi (Lucia) is a cool, simple song by Donizetti, Gaetano at the top of his game. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Donizetti, Gaetano. Once you hear Ancor non giunse (Lucia), you will listen to it over and over. In Il tuo dubbio (Enrico) Donizetti, Gaetano is at his best. A fantastic track full of wonder. Tu sei turbato! (Enrico) is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Act I. Percorrete le spiagge vicine (Orchestra, Coro) is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses.
