This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by Duke Ellington. This album has some very good songs like Tootie For Cootie and Things Ain’t What They Used To Be. When you buy a Duke Ellington album, you know exactly what you’re getting! If I may, I suggest “Tootie For Cootie”. That one song is amazing!
Things Ain’t What They Used To Be on 70th Birthday Concert- Disc 1 is solid and easy to listen to. Take The A Train make listening to Duke Ellington like being in some sort of time warp. Rockin’ In Rhythm is cool work of Duke Ellington. Voice of Duke Ellington in El Gato is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. Laying On Mellow is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. When I listen to Black Butterfly in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. B.P. as well as many of songs is a short story in miniature. Duke Ellington rocks harder than ever with 4:30 Blues.
