Ella Fitzgerald was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Ella Fitzgerald and Porgy And Bess together. one years ago, Ella Fitzgerald briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Summertime”. On Porgy And Bess album, Ella Fitzgerald have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Exciting stuff.
Summertime - A nice song. I Want To Stay Here is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. I Got Plenty Of Nothing is a very catchy tune. Buzzard Song is probably the most interesting track on Porgy And Bess. Some of the arrangements found on Porgy And Bess are surprisingly edgy. Charming song, great melody. What You Want With Bess is the song that really did it for me. A Woman Is A Sometime Thing have really caught my ear and imagination. I find myself hearing bits of Oh Doctor Jesus here and there throughout my waking hours. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. When I listen to There Is A Boat That Is Leaving in my car when traffic ain’t going so good. In Bess Oh Where you won’t find any flashy solos. Oh Lord I`m On My Way is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion.
