George Winston’s debut, ‘December’, does not fit easily into one genre. After seeing Thanksgiving, I had to have a good George Winston cd. Self-described as Classical: Neo-Classical with lots of words, George Winston comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Exciting stuff.
Jesus, Jesus, Rest Your Head is a very catchy tune. If you are a George Winston fan, you will love Joy. In Prelude the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Carol Of The Bells is the funkiest number on the album. Night Part 1- Snow great lyrics, dark, deep, angry and cool.Night Part 2- Midnight on December is solid and easy to listen to. Night Part 3- Minstrels is the albums biggest surprise. Strong, powerful vocals of George Winston in Variations On The Kanon By Pachebel are very impressive. The Holly and The Ivy stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. Some Children See Him hits the heart. You have to get essence of the Peace’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. A Christmas Song can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what George Winston is all about. Sleep Baby Mine is the more seemingly obscure song on December that bear up best to repeated listening.
