Now signed to Gilbert O’Sullivan’s Savoy Records, the title track from second album “I’m A Writer Not A Fighter” leads Gilbert O’Sullivan’s back-to-school campaign. ‘I’m A Writer Not A Fighter’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. Lead single “I’m A Writer Not A Fighter” and “A Friend Of Mine” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Last Hot Album by Gilbert O’Sullivan
After about the third A Friend Of Mine listen through, I began to believe this song is Gilbert O’Sullivan’s essence. They’ve Only Themselves To Blame is really the reason why I recommend buying I’m A Writer Not A Fighter. Some call Who Knows Perhaps Maybe from I’m A Writer Not A Fighter as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. So much energy, so exciting a sound.Ooh Baby is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Overall a nice softer song. Not In A Million Years is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in I’m A Writer Not A Fighter. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Get Down. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: A Very Extraordinary Sort Of Girl, which shows, blatantly, how much Gilbert O’Sullivan has evolved as a singer. Music and lyrics of Why Oh Why Oh Why creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming.
