After debuting at No. 1 last week, Grandmaster Flash’s album Message falls to No. 2 with 304,000, a sales slide of 73%. This is the first studio album from Grandmaster Flash since bad diagnosis in 1982. Lead single “Dreamin’” and “It’s Nasty” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Such great and happy songs.
What sets It’s Nasty apart is Grandmaster Flash’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. It’s a Shame (Mt. Airy Groove) - I like this one. Some call Scorpio from Message as a quiet invitation of an artist to sit and listen. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is She’s Fresh because the melody in the chorus is so good. The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the is the song that really did it for me. The Message is a astounding, simple song by Grandmaster Flash at the top of his game. The opening track You Are is very much like you would expect from other albums.
