This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by Grant Green. Grant Green His Majesty King Funk isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. Grant Green His Majesty King Funk carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. Overall, I would highly recommend Grant Green His Majesty King Funk CD.
Cantaloupe Island - unedited version of master take - [from ‘Up’ with Donald Byrd] makes a person feel perfect. Bossa [from ‘Up’ with Donald Byrd] is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Grant Green His Majesty King Funk. I like to sing along with You’ve Been Talkin’ ’bout Me, Baby [from ‘Up’ with Donald Byrd], though I mess up the lyrics sometimes. My Babe [from ‘Up’ with Donald Byrd] is possibly the best song Grant Green has come up. Willow Weep for Me [from ‘His Mastejy King Funk’] is so unique, as each one of the songs is. The Cantaloupe Woman [from ‘His Mastejy King Funk’] is marvelous and different song. Strong, powerful vocals of Grant Green in That Lucky Old Sun {Just Rolls Around Heaven All Day} - [from ‘His Mastejy King Funk’] are very impressive. Daddy Grapes [from ‘His Mastejy King Funk’] (4:35) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Don’t judge Blind Man, Blind Man [from ‘Up’ with Donald Byrd] on the first listening. I love the melodic melody of Boom, Boom [from ‘Up’ with Donald Byrd] and to this day it makes me feel good. When listening to House of the Rising Sun - reconstructed version of master take - [from ‘Up’ with Donald Byrd], it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. See, See, Rider [from ‘Up’ with Donald Byrd] good vocals.
