Since completing 1975’s ‘Symphonic Soul’, Henry Mancini fulfilled their contract with Sparrow Records and where under no obligation to release another album. There is so much to love about Henry Mancini, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. There were many famous songs of Henry Mancini available. I wish that “Symphonic Soul” album was instrumental.
I believe Butterfly is one of the most exquisite, heartfelt songs ever written. Satin Soul is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Peter Gunn is Henry Mancini’s best work in years. This is probably my favorite song on the album. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. What sets Sun Goddess apart is Henry Mancini’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Vocals of Henry Mancini in Soul Saga really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. You have to get essence of the African Symphony’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece.
