Lead single “Overture” and “Push The Button, Max!” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. It’s natural for Henry Mancini to take a stab at ‘Overture’ considering her long-professed love for 2 Unlimited. For older fans The Great Race will put a massive smile accross your face. Great Instrumental right here!
Push The Button, Max! is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. The Royal Waltz - For me, this is the best of the album. Charming song, great melody. They’re Off - This one is lively and fun. The Sweetheart Tree - A catchy, upbeat tune. Voice and instruments in The Great Race March complement each other. He Shouldn’t - A, Hadn’t, Oughtn’t-A Swang On Me on The Great Race is solid and easy to listen to. Music To Become King By is the more seemingly obscure song on The Great Race that bear up best to repeated listening. Cold Finger one is one of the better boring ones. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Pie - In - The - Face Polka.
