Horace Silver’s debut, ‘A Night at Birdland, Vol. 1′, does not fit easily into one genre. After seeing Announcement by Pee Wee Marquette, I had to have a good Horace Silver cd. There is so much to love about Horace Silver, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. It is very deep stuff - very exciting
Split Kick make listening to Horace Silver like being in some sort of time warp. Once in a While is just simply stunning. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. A Night in Tunisia is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Mayreh has a fun tempo. Listening to Wee-dot you can hear that Horace Silver has still amazing chemistry with band members. Blues is a bit of a show-tune.
