Since completing 1972’s ‘Lies’, J. J. Cale fulfilled their contract with Capitol Records and where under no obligation to release another album. There were many famous songs of J. J. Cale available. There is so much to love about J. J. Cale, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. I wish that “Really” album was instrumental.
Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Really is Everything Will Be Alright. I’ll Kiss The World Goodbye motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. Changes is one of the best records ever. Right Down Here is the more seemingly obscure song on Really that bear up best to repeated listening. If You’re Ever In Oklahoma is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Vocals of J. J. Cale in Ridin’ Home really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. J. J. Cale has astounded me with this amazing track. Voice of J. J. Cale in Soulin is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. Playing In The Street is nothing but pure genius. Mo Jo one is one of the better boring ones. Louisiana Women is a exquisite, simple song by J. J. Cale at the top of his game.
