Janis Joplin’s debut, ‘Cheap Thrills’, does not fit easily into one genre. Since completing 1984’s ‘Come On Baby Let The Good Times Roll’, Janis Joplin fulfilled their contract with ForeFront Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Stanley Donwood has compared writing for Janis Joplin’s new album to that on ‘Cheap Thrills’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. I Love Cheap Thrills from start to finish!
Still going through Cheap Thrills and coming to appreciate I Know You Rider more and more with every listen. Moanin At Midnight is a song to enjoy for years to come. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Hey Baby. Down On Me hits the heart. When listening to Whisperman, it gives me such an energy rush it’s unbelievable. After few listenings I started to like Women Is Losers more and more. Blow My Mind defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. I was truly moved when I heard Ball and Chain. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. Gutra’s Garden is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Harry is one of these floating songs.
