Joao Gilberto’s debut, ‘Amoroso/Brasil’, does not fit easily into one genre. Joao Gilberto was a flawless and timeless record. Not surprising from Joao Gilberto and Amoroso/Brasil together. Thom Yorke has compared writing for Joao Gilberto’s new album to that on ‘Amoroso/Brasil’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. This is what good Jazz should be.
Estate is one of my favorite songs by Joao Gilberto. Vocals of Joao Gilberto in Tin Tin Por Tin Tin really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Besame Mucho is the song that really did it for me. Wave is a excellent, simple song by Joao Gilberto at the top of his game. Caminhos Cruzados - To me, this is the best song on the Amoroso/Brasil. In Triste you won’t find any flashy solos. I can’t stop playing Zingaro. Aquarela Do Brasil is really the reason why I recommend buying Amoroso/Brasil. Disse Alguem (All Of Me) is astounding. Excellent vocals and musical performances. Amoroso/Brasil couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track No Tabuleiro Da Baiana. Milagre is a song to savor, to listen to from every angle. Cordeiro De Nane is a striking and quite long song.
