On Guitar Virtuoso CD4 album, Joe Pass have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. On the Croatia charts, superstar Joe Pass’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. Lead single “You Took Advantage of Me” and “All Too Soon” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
All Too Soon - To me, this is the best song on the Guitar Virtuoso CD4. I Didn’t Know About You stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. No Joe Pass song has come close to capturing my attention as You Go to My Head did. Some of the arrangements found on Guitar Virtuoso CD4 are surprisingly edgy. Still going through Guitar Virtuoso CD4 and coming to appreciate Why Don’t You Do Right? more and more with every listen. Blew our minds when we first heard Alone Together. Baileywick is a medium tempo tune. S’il Vous Plait is a perfect, simple song by Joe Pass at the top of his game. Lover Man (5:37) a good melody. You have to get essence of the Tricrotism’s power, to truly understand this masterpiece. Blues for 2 is the albums biggest surprise. Simple and heartfelt closing track Dindi closes Guitar Virtuoso CD4 on a high note. Takeoff is a astounding song and it grows on you. Joe Pass must have run out of lyrics on the next track My Old Flame. I Didn’t Know What Time It Was is the exquisite blend of moody yet optimistic tunes. Autumn Leaves pretty much defines how I feel spiritually.
