nine years ago, John Surman briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Part Viii Merry Pranks”. John Surman had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. I am not a real Jazz music type of person, but i have to admit ‘A Amazing Adventures Of Simon Simon’ really is amazing. This is one of the best cd’s i have heard through the whole thing.
In Part Viii Merry Pranks it becomes nowhere more obvious that John Surman has yet to define own style. Part Vii Fide Et Amore (4:51) - awsome. I like Part Vi Phoenix And The Fair because it’s extremely catchy and has awesome drumming. Part V Within The Halls Of Neptune (4:00) a good melody. Part Iv The Pilgrim’s Way (In The Seventeen Walls) is a song to enjoy for years to come. I like the idea behind Part Iii Kentish Hunting (Lady Margaret’s Air). Part Ii The Buccaneers catches attention immediately, This track is a great song that still never gets old.
