I am not a real Classical music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Requiem’ really is amazing. Mila Sparrow has compared writing for Karel Ancerl’s new album to that on ‘Requiem’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. While no new Karel Ancerl album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 1959 tour in North America. Enjoy the show.
Agnus Dei is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. The sound in Pie Jesu is really warm and Karel Ancerl’s signature voice is still very much present. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Lyrics of Hostias are precise and evocative. This track is full of harmonies and gets Requiem off to a relaxing start. I’ve found myself listening to Lacrimosa back to back and back many times. Confutatis maledictis motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. Such hits like Recordare, Jesu Pie will leave you hooked. Music and lyrics of Quod sum miser creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Requiem. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin. Voice of Karel Ancerl in Graduale is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. Requiem aeternam gets you up and jumping.
