I am not a real Folk: Folk-Rock music type of person, but i have to admit ‘Recent Songs’ really is amazing. Lead single “The Guests” and “Humbled In Love” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Humbled In Love is simple, dignified and effective, Leonard Cohen refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. The Window is another favourite of mine. Came So Far For Beauty is just simply stunning. Leonard Cohen emotions are reflected through The Lost Canadian (Un Canadien Errant). The Traitor is the best music that I have heard from anyone in any area of music. Our Lady Of Solitude is one of these floating songs. I think The Gypsy’s Wife is the best song Leonard Cohen has ever done. Strong, powerful vocals of Leonard Cohen in The Smokey Life are very impressive. Ballad Of The Absent Mare is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses.
