It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Otis Spann energies, virtually a rebirth. Live the Life carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. On the USA charts, superstar Otis Spann’s career stalled before it left the starting gate. This album is in perfect progression from Otis Spann!
Album opener Look Under My Bed is a bright, upbeat ditty. Tribute To Matin Luther King is probably the highlight of the album. This is one of those tracks that should not be judged after the first hearing. Worried Life Blues defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. Blew our minds when we first heard Kansas City. First time I heard Tin Pan Alley was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing.5 Long Years hits the heart. Live The Life I Love good vocals. I Wanna Go Home is possibly the best song Otis Spann has come up. Can’t Lose Waht You Ain’t Never Had is the albums biggest surprise. High Rising - This one is what it is: a powerful, primal invitation to love. Overall a nice softer song. In What’s On Your Worried Mind the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Mean Old Train is perfect song though, very addictive. After you’ve listened to My Baby Left Me, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate.
