It’s natural for Otis Spann to take a stab at ‘Rock Me Mama’ considering her long-professed love for Gridlok. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Otis Spann’s album The Blues Of Otis Spann falls to No. 2 with 260,000, a sales slide of 78%. Self-described as Blues with lots of words, Otis Spann comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. If I may, I suggest “Rock Me Mama”. That one song is amazing!
Music and lyrics of I Came From Clarksdale creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. Keep Your Hand Out Of My Pocket is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. Spann’s Boogie (2:06) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Otis Spann sings his heart out in Sarah Street. The Blues Don’t Like Nobody is the most memorable and gorgeous. Country Boy is a bit of a show-tune. Pretty Girls Everywhere (2:50) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! Meet Me In The Bottom is the album’s biggest hit, I think. In Lost Sheep In The Fold the music gets its power. I Got A Feeling is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Jangle Boogie - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Music in T.99 is cool as in all tracks of The Blues Of Otis Spann. Natural Days is pretty funky and mellow. A fantastic track full of wonder. Stirs Me Up stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty.
