On Hispanoamerica album, Paco De Lucia have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Lead single “Quizas, Quizas, Quizas” and “Cielito Lindo” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Paco De Lucia energies, virtually a rebirth. To me Paco De Lucia is the best band ever.
The sound of Cielito Lindo is difficult to describe, as it seems to squirm in a sensual manner, unlike anything ever created. Yo Vendo Unos Ojos Negros - A classic Paco De Lucia track. This track is possibly the biggest guilty pleasure on Hispanoamerica. Guadalajara one is one of the better boring ones. This is one hell of a track. Malaguena Salerosa is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track Paco De Lucia ever produced. Y Todo A Media Luz is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Musically Granada is superior to other tracks in Hispanoamerica. The sound in Alma, Corazon Y Vida is really warm and Paco De Lucia’s signature voice is still very much present. Tomo Y Obligo is the albums biggest surprise. Voice of Paco De Lucia in Paloma is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant.
