Since completing 1974’s ‘When I Get To The Border’, Richard Thompson fulfilled their contract with Columbia Records and where under no obligation to release another album. After seeing When I Get To The Border, I had to have a good Richard Thompson cd. On I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight vs. Linda Thompson album, Richard Thompson have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Enjoy the show.
The Calvary Cross is marvelous and different song. Withered And Died is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight is a bit different from Richard Thompson stereotypical stuff. Down Where The Drunkards Roll - My least favorite song on this album. I have all of Richard Thompson’s tracks and We Sing Hallelujah is probably the most his introspective effort. If you are a Richard Thompson fan, you will love Has He Got A Friend For Me. As always, Richard Thompson’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Nice and different song. The Great Valerio is the album’s biggest hit, I think.
