Since completing 1981’s ‘Playing In The Flame’, Sally Oldfield fulfilled their contract with Sparrow Records and where under no obligation to release another album. John Digester has compared writing for Sally Oldfield’s new album to that on ‘Playing In The Flame’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. Playing In The Flame isn’t so much a record, as a great effort at dragging you into another world. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about Sally Oldfield ever.
Love Of A Lifetime is a gorgeous, simple song by Sally Oldfield at the top of his game. There is astounding mix of music in River Of My Childhood. The song Let It All Go ending is my favorite… so catchy! Song Of The Lamp is one of the more up-tempo songs on Playing In The Flame. First time I heard Rare Lightning was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing. You can find feelings on this piece of art. It took me a little time but I ended up loving It’s A Long Time. Song Of The Being is nothing but pure genius.
