ten years ago, Sandie Shaw briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Blake’s breakdown”. On The Collection album, Sandie Shaw have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. ‘The Collection’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. I wish that “The Collection” album was instrumental.
I find myself hearing bits of Blake’s breakdown here and there throughout my waking hours. Little boy, little boy, who made your britches is Sandie Shaw’s best work in years. I listened to the opening track Haag city dance and liked it a lot. See that girl sitting on the fence is a very catchy tune. Sandie Shaw must have run out of lyrics on the next track Georgia camp meeting. This track is clearly meant to showcase Sandie Shaw’s vocal abilities. Hard hearted Hannah is a medium tempo tune. St.Louis tickle is a song to enjoy for years to come. Twelve sticks is another strong production from Sandie Shaw. Powder rag is a bit different from Sandie Shaw stereotypical stuff. A salty dog rag is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in The Collection. Sister Kate’s syncopated dance - This one is lively and fun. I think Slippin’ till my gal comes in partner is the best song Sandie Shaw has ever done. Jealous very upbeat. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Franklin blues is my favorite song on The Collection.
