On Join Hands album, Siouxsie And The Banchees have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Lead single “Poppy Day” and “Regal Zone” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Siouxsie And The Banchees on ‘Poppy Day’. I wish that “Join Hands” album was instrumental.
Regal Zone is simple, dignified and effective, Siouxsie And The Banchees refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. This song may be the most meaningful. Song Icon is actually a funny song. Premature Burial is the most memorable and astounding. Playground Twist - I just love it. Mother (Oh, Mein Papa) is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. The sound in The Lords Prayer is really warm and Siouxsie And The Banchees’s signature voice is still very much present.
