There is so much to love about Soft Machine, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. There is no doubt that Soft Machine has talent. Since Soft Machine last CD (Land Of Cockayne) on EMI Records back in 1981, I have felt a massive void in my life. Land Of Cockayne is not something you should pass up.
Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Land Of Cockayne is Lotus Groves. Isle Of The Blessed is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Soft Machine rocks harder than ever with Panoramania. Music in Behind The Crystal Curtain is marvelous as in all tracks of Land Of Cockayne. After about the third Palace Of Glass listen through, I began to believe this song is Soft Machine’s essence. The opening track Hot-Biscuit Slim is very much like you would expect from other albums. Charming song, great melody. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Sly Monkey is my favorite song on Land Of Cockayne. A Lot Of What You Fancy… is a amazing sing-along.
