‘Whoopin” kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. There is no doubt that Sonny Terry with Johnny Winter& Willie Dixon has talent. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Sonny Terry with Johnny Winter& Willie Dixon on ‘I Got My Eyes On You’. If I may, I suggest “I Got My Eyes On You”. That one song is amazing!
I have all of Sonny Terry with Johnny Winter& Willie Dixon’s tracks and Sonny’s Whoopin’ The Doop is probably the most his introspective effort. Voice and instruments in Burnt Child complement each other. I love the melodic melody of Whoo Wee Baby and to this day it makes me feel good. Crow Jane is simply gorgeous. I hope to keep hearing Sonny Terry with Johnny Winter& Willie Dixon works for a long time to come. Whoo Wee Baby is one of those songs that will put you in a good mood. I Think I Got the Blues is the album’s biggest hit, I think. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with Ya, Ya. In Roll Me, Baby it becomes nowhere more obvious that Sonny Terry with Johnny Winter& Willie Dixon has yet to define own style.
