Since The Carpenters last CD (An Old Fashioned Christmas) on Mute Records back in 1984, I have felt a massive void in my life. two years ago, The Carpenters briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Overture Happy Holiday”. It has been two years The Carpenters’ last studio CD, “An Old Fashioned Christmas” which won Array Academy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. This album is awesome.
Overture Happy Holiday is probably the highlight of the album. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in An Old Fashioned Christmas. Music and lyrics of O Holy Night creates, for me, fertile ground for daydreaming. It took me a little time but I ended up loving Home For The Holidays. Don’t judge Medley Here Comes Santa Claus on the first listening. Little Altar Boy is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Do You Hear What I Hear is a medium tempo tune. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor. One listen to the sheer beauty of He Came Here For Me was all I needed. Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town is so unique, as each one of the songs is. This track is clearly meant to showcase The Carpenters’s vocal abilities. Selections From “The Nutcracker” is a pleasing, and full of overall coherence that goes beyond other creations. Strong percussion and poignant lyrics of this track really gets under your skin.
