After debuting at No. 1 last week, The Police’s album Ghost In The Machine falls to No. 2 with 505,000, a sales slide of 61%. Lead single “Spirits In The Material World” and “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Since completing 1981’s ‘Spirits In The Material World’, The Police fulfilled their contract with Columbia Records and where under no obligation to release another album. Ghost In The Machine constantly brilliant.
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track The Police ever produced. Invisible Sun is a striking and quite long song. Hungry For You (J’aurais Toujours Faim De Toi) - This one makes me want to not only sing along. The Police allows each song to breathe and flourish. Too Much Information is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Get Ghost In The Machine and turn on Rehumanize Yourself if you are going to sip your wine late at night. One World (Not Three) the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Omegaman, which shows, blatantly, how much The Police has evolved as a singer. It’s also one of those rare songs that touchingly comfort the listener. Darkness - This one is lively and fun.
