The Residents’s debut, ‘Commercial Album’, does not fit easily into one genre. For older fans Commercial Album will put a massive smile accross your face. On Commercial Album album, The Residents have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. I wish that “Commercial Album” album was instrumental.
Perfect Love had me crying as I was able to relate so well. Put Picnic Boy into car stereo for your highway driving End Of Home is almost impossible to review. Amber is pretty funky and mellow. |titile| is a sure sign of something most of us are experiencing, maturity. All of songs on Commercial Album and have something to say letting alone Secrets. The Residents sings Die In Terror in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. Red Rider is an incredible song that has everything it needs to be another favorite track. My Second Wife is one of the best records ever. This track is just a stunning masterpiece. The song Suburban Bathers ending is my favorite… so catchy! Dimples And Toes is possibly the best song The Residents has come up. I believe The Nameless Souls is one of the most amazing, heartfelt songs ever written. Love Leaks Out is a striking and quite long song. Act Of Being Polite is simple, dignified and effective, The Residents refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. Tragic Bells is possibly the most mysterious and inexplicable track The Residents ever produced. Loss Of Innocence is a pleasing, and full of overall coherence that goes beyond other creations. |titile| is the kind of record that makes you remember why music can be so addictive. Ups And Downs is the most memorable and cool. I like the agression and power of Possessions. Give It To Someone Else - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in Commercial Album. From the sound of it, I believe the song can be a big radio hit. My Work Is So Behind sets the tone for the entire album. Birds In The Trees is a very catchy tune. Handful Of Desire I just LOVE this mix! Moisture - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Love Is… is a astounding, simple song by The Residents at the top of his game. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think Troubled Man is my favorite song on Commercial Album. I love the melodic melody of La La and to this day it makes me feel good. Loneliness is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything The Residents released so far. Nice Old Man - A catchy, upbeat tune. The Residents has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. The Residents must have run out of lyrics on the next track Fingertips. In Between Dreams - Okay, I just talked about depth. Margaret Freeman is, without a doubt, my favorite song, ever. The Coming Of The Crow is The Residents’s best work in years. Music of When We Were Young is gentle, never overbearing.
