The Shadows’s debut, ‘The Sound Of The Shadows’, does not fit easily into one genre. The Shadows had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. This album has some very good songs like Brazil and The Lost City. If you love The Shadows as much as I do, then The Shadows The Sound Of The Shadows is the CD for you!
The Lost City - This one has a powerful beat and a good melody. Voice and instruments in A Little Bitty Tear complement each other. Blue Sky, Blue Sea, Blue Me is the albums biggest surprise. One of the songs that always stick in my mind is Bossa Roo because the melody in the chorus is so good. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. The Shadows is one of artists that allow his songs like Cotton Pickin’ to stand on their own and be heard. I find myself hearing bits of Deep Purple here and there throughout my waking hours. In Santa Ana it becomes nowhere more obvious that The Shadows has yet to define own style. I now have The Windjammer as one of my personal favorites. Dean’s Theme is the more seemingly obscure song on The Sound Of The Shadows that bear up best to repeated listening. Opening track Breakthru’ shows the best of The Shadows. Let It Be Me is the most memorable and marvelous. National Provincial Samba is beautiful, yet underrated track.
