Self-described as Jazz with lots of words, Thelonious Monk comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. Thelonious Monk’s debut, ‘Mulligan Meets Monk’, does not fit easily into one genre. There were many famous songs of Thelonious Monk available. Smart music for smart people.
Rhithm-A-Ning is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Mulligan Meets Monk have ended. Sweet and Lovely one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. Decidedly (take 4) rocked my world when I popped it into my car stereo. Only one song from Mulligan Meets Monk named Decidedly (take 5) really got me. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Straight, No Chaser (take 3), which shows, blatantly, how much Thelonious Monk has evolved as a singer. Straight, No Chaser (take 1) - A classic Thelonious Monk track. Mulligan Meets Monk couldn’t start better than with the up up-beat title track I Mean You (take 4). Lyrics of I Mean You (take 2) are precise and evocative.
